Pet Wellness Disclaimer
Holistic healing can offer benefits for pets, but it is essential to approach it with caution, proper research, and professional guidance. Please read the following disclaimers carefully before introducing any herbal blends, supplements, or holistic care to your pet.
General Disclaimer
For more information on holistic healing for pets, refer to my pamphlet “Friendly Healing for Your Furry Friend.”
- Always research thoroughly before giving any culinary or medicinal herb blends to your pet. If unsure, consult me for advice or seek guidance from a holistic veterinarian.
- I DO NOT recommend essential oils for pets.
- I DO NOT recommend alcohol-based tinctures for pets.
- I DO NOT recommend tinctures for cats and advise using only carefully controlled amounts of alcohol-free (glycerin-based) tinctures for dogs. Tinctures are concentrated and much more potent than dried herbs or root blends. Use only tinctures formulated specifically for pets.
- I would not recommend giving any herbal tea blend at least 72 hours before a scheduled procedure for your pet.
Be cautious when combining herbal blends with medications, as some may interact. Always consult a veterinarian before mixing herbs with prescribed treatments.
Safe Usage & Monitoring
Introduce herbs gradually and only when you can monitor your pet’s reaction. Since pets can’t communicate discomfort verbally, watch for changes in behavior or symptoms.
- Never force your pet to consume an herb or blend if they refuse it.
- For maintenance use, herbal blends should be given sparingly—no more than three times a week at the proper dosage for your pet’s weight, age, and breed. Follow specific instructions for any supplements or holistic products.
- DO NOT combine multiple herbal blends or mix different medicinal and culinary blends together. Only give one herbal blend at a time.
- Discontinue use immediately if your pet shows negative reactions such as behavioral changes, new physical symptoms, or worsening of existing symptoms.
Special Considerations for Cats & Dogs
CATS:
Cats have a much lower tolerance for supplements and herbal blends and tend to be more sensitive to them.
- DO NOT apply topical balms, salves, or oils directly to a cat’s fur, as they groom themselves frequently and may ingest harmful amounts.
- For wounds on the paws, a topical balm may be used, but the paw should be wrapped to prevent ingestion.
- For cysts or lumps, I recommend warm heat compresses instead of topical applications.
DOGS:
- If using topical balms, salves, or oils on an area a dog can lick (e.g., paws), ensure it is fully absorbed or cover the area with a bandage to prevent ingestion.
- Ingesting excessive amounts of balms or oils can be hazardous over time, so proper application is crucial.
Additional Disclaimers
- I am not a veterinarian or veterinarian assistant… I also do not hold any certifications, licenses, or credentials in any like job titles.
- A full list of my general brand disclaimers can be found in the “Privacy & Policy” section on my website. All of those disclaimers are also applied to these additional pet care disclaimers.
- I would start your pet off with HALF the amount of the recommended starting dosage of any culinary & medicinal herb blend.
- Make sure you notify your veteranerian of any holistic supplement or herbal tea blends that you give your pet
Final Note
I encourage all pet owners to do their own research on holistic healing before introducing any herbs or supplements to their pets. Most medicinal herb blends are not meant for long-term use. Understanding what works best for your pet’s specific needs is essential for their health and well-being.
If you have any concerns or need guidance, feel free to reach out or consult a holistic veterinarian. Your pet’s safety and health should always come first.
